Menopause Tech

After working with consumer facing smart products for more than 15 years, Vanessa realized that we had reached an apex in designing new smart technologies. The sensors and actuators we have always dreamed of are inexpensive and readily available. Hardware development is still hard, but it is supported by hardware incubators and production and manufacturing facilities worldwide. Yet, with all this advancement, there are almost no products on the market to support the half the population of the planet who will experience menopause.

Creating space for development

Vanessa dedicated her company, Kintsugi Design to spend 1 year solely focused on researching and designing new menopause technologies. What she and her team found was that few people are willing to tackle this area because with 35+ symptoms, and many of them 'invisible' such as depression, anxiety, or brain fog, it's extremely difficult to design meaningful and effective technologies.

Menopause.Tech - a Community

Vanessa worked with technologists and designers to explore a few prototypes, and to map our the landscape of menopause technologies, art, academic research, and on-or-near-market products. The result has been transformed into two online communities on one platform: for technology developers and people experiencing menopause who are interested in technology. Vanessa's vision is to inspire a transition in the way we design, develop and deploy technologies for people experiencing menopause, and fundamentally, to break the stigma surrounding menopause.
